Lecture-Concert review by Cesare Guzzardella on Corrierebit May 12th, 2024 – Two musical meetings today in Milan
May 12, 2024

Two alternative places in Milan where important musical meetings often take place are located in via Silvio Pellico 6 (Amici del Loggione del Teatro alla Scala) and in via Fratelli Zoia 89 (Spazio Teatro 89). The first, very central, next to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele; the second decentralized, towards Baggio. In both the music is presented, told and introduced by experts in the sector such as Luca Schieppati, creator of the intelligent chamber music festival in via Fratelli Zoia, and Mario Marcarini for the Amici del Loggione, inventor of the “Lieti Calici” (musical meetings followed by a toast, with excellent wines and more).

This morning in via Pellico we listened to the Calabrian pianist Ingrid Carbone, who has come several times in recent years to present her CDs and to hold short concerts, also enriched by valid introductions to the pieces to be performed. Today he held an interesting Lesson-Concert on the music of Liszt, specifically on the virtuosic transcriptions of the Hungarian genius of some of Franz Schubert’s lieder (“The young nun”, “To be sung on the water”, “Ave Maria”).

The respective musical constructions, also based on the lyrics, were illustrated with great competence, before the valid interpretations, which were much applauded. The encore, deliberately off topic, but linked to the concept of Lisztian virtuosity, was the famous O Polichinelo by the Brazilian Villa Lobos, performed excellently by Carbone, who we remember is also a university professor of mathematics, a discipline which represents his other great passion together to music.
