Recently recorded is “Le Sentiment de la Nature”, the second entirely Lisztian album by pianist Ingrid Carbone, which presents a selection of pieces taken from the Harmonies poétiques et religieuses, the Années de Pèlerinage and the two Légendes.
For the occasion I interviewed Ingrid, who very willingly answered my questions.
Your album is called “the feeling of nature”. Reading Chiara Bertoglio’s notes, three fundamental “recurrences” can be summarized, both of the album and of the figure of Liszt: the element of nature as a sublimated inspiring factor; literature, as a descriptive and contemplative source; the religious component, which for the composer results in a heartfelt attraction for the transcendent. How much did all this influence the repertoire choices for your album?
The answer is undoubtedly positive: this is my third CD, and the second dedicated to Liszt. Already in the first CD the attraction towards these three “anniversaries” was evident: Sonata Dante, Six Consolations, Légende n.2: St. François de Paule marchant sur les flots and Liebestraum n.3 testify to this. However, I cannot hide that as time passes these three “anniversaries” are increasingly becoming “my anniversaries”. It is no coincidence, in fact, that my second CD was dedicated to Schubert with the four Impromptus Op.90 and the Six Moments Musicaux Op.94. But I would add that my daily life, and therefore even beyond the repertoire choices, is continually accompanied (I would say, marked) by a growing love for nature and animals, by repeated battles in defense of the weak (and not only animals). And then there is my constant asking myself questions, looking for answers, finding them and not finding them, all stimulated by my other faithful companion – reading. It’s a mix that naturally pushes me towards a certain repertoire.
