Pianist, mathematician, and educator Ingrid Carbone will be the featured guest speaker at the conference-concert “Music and Statistics: Interpretation Between Data and Choices,” scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, at 5:45 PM, at the Pescara Conservatory. The event, free to attend until capacity is reached, is part of the 6th Statistics Summer School for Teacher Training, titled “Between Data and Graphs: Discovering Reality with Statistics at School,” promoted by ISTAT (National Institute of Statistics) and MATHESIS Nazionale. The event, scheduled for July 8-10, is aimed at teachers and educators with the goal of disseminating teaching tools to foster a culture of data and statistics from the earliest stages of education. During the event, Carbone will present a program combining scientific reflection and piano performance through music by Domenico Scarlatti and Ruggero Leoncavallo. The conference will illustrate how musical interpretation requires the simultaneous processing of a vast amount of information and how the mathematical method, through processes of abstraction and data organization, can offer concrete tools to guide interpretative choices. The theoretical part will be accompanied by a full performance of the analyzed pieces, following the “concert-conversation” format, a hallmark of her artistic and educational work. The initiative is supported by the president of MATHESIS Nazionale, Professor Domenica Di Sorbo.
