On Saturday, May 16, in Milan, pianist, mathematician, and cultural communicator Ingrid Carbone will present a special “Piano Lesson” titled “The Female Universe in the Music of Schubert, Liszt, and Leoncavallo.” Organized as part of Piano City Milano, the event will take place at CASVA (Center for Advanced Studies on Visual Arts).

The event—free to the public until capacity is reached—is a “concert-conversation,” a format created by Carbone herself that blends musical performance with educational commentary, offering a unique journey of listening and cultural exploration. On this occasion, the pianist will present a musical and narrative journey dedicated to the female universe, drawing on the diverse perspectives found in the compositions of Ruggiero Leoncavallo and Franz Schubert (specifically in Franz Liszt’s piano transcriptions).

This lecture-concert guides the audience through a blend of emotion and analysis, demonstrating how the structure of mathematical thought can serve as a profound key to understanding a piece’s expressive meaning and architecture. Carbone bridges musical sensibility with analytical rigor—a synthesis born of her dual background as a concert pianist and a university mathematics professor.

Carbone has performed across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and recorded for Da Vinci Publishing, earning two nominations for the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), eight Global Music Awards, and numerous rave reviews from the international press. Recognized by the Cosenza Conservatory of Music as its top graduate in the institution’s first fifty years, she balances her artistic career with scientific research at the University of Calabria, where she teaches Mathematical Analysis.
