Pianist, mathematician, and music and culture communicator INGRID CARBONE Thursday, December 4th in SIENA protagonist of the event “CONVERSATION – CONCERT” on the occasion of the 85th birthday of mathematician Rainer Nagel
On Thursday, December 4th, at 5:30 pm, at the University of Siena, in the Ex Cappella San Nicolò (Via Roma, 56), pianist, mathematician, and music and culture communicator INGRID CARBONE will be the featured guest at the “CONVERSATION-CONCERT” event, organized to celebrate the 85th birthday of mathematician Rainer Nagel. The event is free, subject to availability.
The event, titled “Conversation–Concert,” will consist of a conversation-concert, a format conceived by Ingrid Carbone herself and successfully presented in Europe, China, Latin America, and the Middle East. The event will be held in English and will feature the pianist performing music by Leoncavallo and Schubert-Liszt. During the event, the pianist and researcher will guide the audience in exploring the relationship between music and mathematics, demonstrating how the discipline and clarity of mathematical thought support the interpretative process. Ingrid Carbone will illustrate the concrete influence of logical-deductive thinking on the work on the score, which results in a deeper, more authentic and conscious performance.
Ingrid Carbone is a concert pianist and university professor of mathematics, with a career spanning music, scientific research, and cultural dissemination. She has performed for prestigious institutions in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, and has recorded for the Japanese label Da Vinci Publishing, receiving two nominations at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) and eight awards from the Global Music Awards (USA) for her recordings, which have been widely reviewed by the international music press. Furthermore, she has been recognized by the Conservatory of Music of Cosenza, where she trained, as the piano graduate with the most outstanding artistic career in the institute’s first 50 years. In parallel with her artistic career, she is a researcher and tenured professor at the University of Calabria, where she teaches Mathematical Analysis and carries out scientific work with publications in international journals and invited talks in Europe and Canada. Her approach to musical interpretation is influenced by this training, integrating analytical rigor with expressive sensitivity.
She studied with prestigious pianists, including Lazar Berman, and trained at international academies such as the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Tel-Hai International Piano Master Classes in Israel. She has received numerous awards, including the Scarlatti and Piano Special Mentions from the New York IBLA Foundation, the Rotary “La città del sole” Award, the FIDAPA BPW “Donna del Sud” Award, and the “Città di Montalto Uffugo” Lifetime Achievement Award. Alongside her concert activity, she is strongly committed to the dissemination of music, particularly through her “concert-conversations,” a unique method of dissemination in the international music scene.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with Italian and international schools, universities, conservatories, and cultural institutions, including the Italian Embassy in Jordan, the Italian Consulate in Jerusalem, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Krakow. From October 6th to October 9th of this year, she hosted a three-day masterclass and a special concert entitled “Italian Composers” at the National Conservatory of Music in Amman, Jordan. On November 10th, she held the event “Intertwining Music and Mathematics | Conversation-Concert. Scientific Rigor for a Free and Conscious Interpretation” at the Liceo Scientifico A. Pacinotti in Cagliari, as part of the 18th edition of the Cagliari Science Festival.
